This test is done during the first trimester of pregnancy. It is primarily used to check infectious disease like HIV, diabetes, thyroid and also to assess the health of the pregnant woman.
It also helps in checking the possibilities of the health issues that may affect the fetus.
Proper treatment and medication are given to the patient after examining the medical condition. The group test includes, complete blood count, hemoglobin electrophoresis, Urinalysis Rh factor Anti-HCV, HBsAg, HIV 1&2, VDRL, TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone)
Procedure involved in Antenatal Profile-I ANC profile-1 test
The surface or the area, from where the blood is to be withdrawn, is cleaned with the help of an antiseptic
The doctor takes the sample of the blood by using a sterile swab
The needle is inserted into the vein and then the nozzle is withdrawn
The specialist then applies a bit of pressure on the area for easy flow of blood
Cotton or gauze is used to stop the bleeding
Then the blood sample is sent to the laboratory for testing
Why get tested?
Antenatal Profile-I ANC profile-1 test is performed to check the medical condition of the pregnant woman.
Hemoglobin - It is done to check the hemoglobin level in the body as low level indicates iron deficiency and sickle cell anemia.
Rh factor and blood group – The test is done to check the absence or presence of Rh factor in the fetus and as well as in mother’s body.
HIV 1&2 test – This test helps the doctor to check the absence/presence of the HIV 1&2 virus in the body of the mother. If in case it is detected, then the treatment can be done to prevent the transmission of the virus to the fetus.
HBsAg and Anti-HCV- This test is done to check the existence of Hepatitis 1 and 2 viruses.
VDRL test - The test is done by the doctor to check the presence of syphilis.
Hemoglobin electrophoresis – This test is done to check the presence of abnormal hemoglobin.
TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) test – It is a test that helps the doctor to check the level of TSH in the body of the mother.
The patient doesn’t need to do any specific preparation for Antenatal Profile-I ANC profile-1 test
In the case of Glucose F&PP or glucose fasting, one must fast overnight
