Breast Mastectomy is a surgical procedure to partially or completely remove a woman’s breasts. It is majorly performed to remove cancer affected breast tissue or prevent any possibilities of breast cancer by pre-emptively getting rid of them. Women whose breast cancer tumors cannot be taken out by tissue preserving procedures like Lumpectomy+ Radiation are recommended to undergo Mastectomy. This gets rid of their total affected part and erases any further possibilities of reoccurrence. Moreover, some women prefer Mastectomy over Lumpectomy for personal reasons.
Mastectomy can be paired with a reconstructive surgery like Breast Augmentation to enhance the look of their bust. This can be done right after Mastectomy or sometime later depending on the situation and choice.
