Cefixime 200 mg is a third generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Administered orally, it comes in the form of capsules or suspension. It is used in the treatment of a spectrum of bacterial infections, including otitis media or middle ear infection, strep throat, urinary tract infection, gonorrhoea, Lyme disease, skin infections, tonsillitis and throat infections or bronchial infections. For gonorrhoea, generally a single dose of Cefixime 200 mg is prescribed.

  • Otitis Media, an infection in the ear inflicted by Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis and Streptococcus aureus
  • Certain urinary tract infections
  • Sexually transmitted disease gonorrhoea

There are some possible side-effects associated with Cefixime. Many side-effects are possible but will not always occur. Some side-effects may be serious, if they exhibit unusual persistence.

The side-effects include of this cephalosporin antibiotic include:

  • Abdominal pain, upset stomach, persistent nausea and vomiting
  • Allergic reactions that occur in the form of skin rashes, swelling and breathing difficulty
  • Paleness of skin, yellowish eyes and unexplained exhaustion
  • Dark colour of urine and change in amount and frequency of urinary discharge which may be indicative of kidney –related problems

  • A rare intestinal condition with early manifestation as diarrhoea caused by Clostridium difficile may surface. The condition may sometimes occur after several weeks or months of discontinuation of Cefixime.

Cefixime 200 MG Dosage:

Cefixime 200 mg should be taken as advised by your physician. Self-administration of the medicine is not advised. It should not be chewed or crushed. It can be taken with or without food but at a consistent time every day.
