Uses and Benefits of Dermi 5:

  • Skin Disorders: Dermatitis or inflammation of the skin arises due various local and systemic conditions. The symptoms include redness, rash, itching and mild swelling of affected area. Some of the common causes for dermatitis include eczema, psoriasis, allergy, drug reactions, and contact allergy after exposure to irritants or chemicals, etc. Clobetasol, the corticosteroid component of Dermi 5 ensures that the inflammation is brought down by acting against factors that cause redness, swelling and itching in the body. The anti-bacterial component, Gentamicin ensures that the raw area of the skin does not develop secondary bacterial infections. The other anti-fungal components in the drug prevent opportunistic fungal infection of the affected areas.
  • Autoimmune disorders: A disease in which the immune system attacks cellular components of one’s own body is called an autoimmune disease. These diseases have many skin manifestations which respond well to Dermi 5 application. Dermi 5 can be applied to affected skin areas in conditions such as alopecia areata, lichen planus, lichen sclerosis, etc.
  • Chronic skin conditions: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterised by itchy lesions on the skin covered by shiny silvery scales. Lichen planus is also a chronic dermatologic disorder characterized by itchy, purplish-blue lesions. In both these conditions, Dermi 5 has shown to cause relief of symptoms.
  • Infections: Fungal infections like Ringworm infection, Athlete’s foot, jock itch, yeast infections and bacterial infections that cause pustules or blisters along with redness and inflammation can all be treated with topical application of Dermi 5 ointment. Infections spread due to multiplication of the offending organisms which form colonies and expand on the skin surface. Bacteriostatic agents in Dermi 5 preparation help to stop actively dividing micro-organisms from proliferating. Once the causative organisms are eliminated, the damage done can be easily brought down by the anti-inflammatory component of Dermi 5 ointment.

How Dermi 5 works? The whole process contributes to the reduction and prevention of the rashes, allergy, eczema, psoriasis and other autoimmune disorders.

The Dermi 5 belongs to the category of corticosteroids and works as an anti-inflammatory agent. It blocks the metabolism of arachidonic acid by obstructing synthesis of phospholipase A2. This results in the reduction in the production of inflammatory agents such as leukotrienes and prostaglandins.

Mechanism of Action of Clobetasol propionate

Clobetasol propionate is a highly potent topical synthetic glucocorticoid with excellent anti-pruritic and anti-inflammatory properties. It works by suppressing the action of inflammatory agents that cause built-up of fluid resulting in swelling, induration and redness. It suppresses tissue factors that cause increased itching in affected areas. It has vast-constrictive properties too that help to reduce redness, warmth and inflammation of afflicted areas.

Mechanism of Action of Gentamicin

Gentamicin is a topically effective antibiotic which works by interrupting protein synthesis in the causative bacteria. Thus, there is arrest in multiplication of bacterial organisms resulting in good antiseptic action.

Mechanism of Action of Clotrimazole

Clotrimazole is an azole anti-fungal which acts by interfering with the biosynthesis of ergosterol which is an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This results in stopping of fungal proliferation in affected sites.

Mechanism of Action of Clioquinol (Iodochlorhydroxyquin)

Clioquinol is a potent anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-protozoal agent which acts as a topical antiseptic. The exact mechanism by which Clioquinol exerts its action is unknown.
