Knee replacement surgery is the process of treating diseased and painful knee joints. This is accomplished with the replacement of damaged cartilage and bone with an artificial joint (prosthesis).
The targeted damaged bones are usually shinbone, thighbone and knee cap. The artificial joints are made up of high-grade plastics metal alloys and polymers. The X-rays and the other assessments (motion, strength, and stability) are done to examine the extent of the damage.
The surgery that is performed to replace both the knees at one go is called bilateral knee replacement. The surgery could be a total or a partial replacement of knees.
